Kruveytown
Economics, entrepreneurship, and sustainability — all in one beloved QUEST tradition.
Kruveytown is an interactive, school-wide learning experience designed to teach students about economics, entrepreneurship, and sustainability. Originally created as a way for students to learn how money and the economy work, students held classroom jobs throughout the year to earn "Kruveys" — a form of classroom currency — which they later used to start their own businesses.
Today, Kruveytown continues as a fun and educational project where students collaborate to create sustainable businesses offering either a product or a service. All products and materials must be upcycled, reused, or repurposed — nothing new may be purchased for the project.
Kruveytown began more than 26 years ago, before the current staff's arrival at QUEST. It was founded by Mr. Kruchten and Mrs. Hovey, who taught together at the time.
The name "Kruveytown" is a combination of their two names — a nod to the collaboration at the heart of the program.
Intermediate students are the primary participants, forming small business groups and running their own ventures. The rest of the school participates as customers, using Kruveys earned in their own classrooms to shop.

All other students and staff participate as customers, spending Kruveys they've earned in their own classrooms throughout the year. Kruveytown runs two days a week for several weeks. Student entrepreneurs analyze their performance weekly and make adjustments to improve their businesses. |
All work on products and services takes place outside of instructional time.

Kruveytown supports multiple educational objectives that go well beyond the classroom.
